The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) is the sole agency of the government mandated to advance and regulate the safe and peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology in the Philippines. It is one of the research and development institutes under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). PNRI continues to take the lead in nuclear research and development and carries out the legally-mandated twin function of advancing and regulating the beneficial uses of nuclear energy and radiation technology in agriculture, medicine, industry, research and environment and other related fields. The PNRI is the lead focal agency of Philippine membership in the international Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). PNRI continues to have linkages with the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO), Indonesian National Atomic Energy Agency (BATAN) and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and the latest agreement signed was with Atomic Energy Canada, Limited (AECL). PNRI represents the Philippines in the RCA/IAEA, a Regional Cooperation Agreement among 17 countries in the Asia-Pacific Region, pursuing peaceful nuclear energy applications. Linkages to the information highway via the Internet are established and continuing efforts on networking are being intensified in collaboration with international and local organizations. |
